ROCKY MOUNTAIN
RACEWAY IS PROVIDING HOT RACING ON HOT NIGHTS
Cloce continues
to lead ASA Member Track Standings.

DAYTONA BEACH, FL
(Thursday, August 20, 2009) – A typical conversation with
someone usually starts with asking how the weather is in their
area. Doug Binstock, General Manager/Oval Manager for
Rocky Mountain Raceway, an ASA Member Track in West Valley City,
UT will say he will take 85-90 degree temperatures with no rain
in the forecast every day. He will also tell you that
Rocky Mountain Raceway’s Modified division is providing some of
the hottest racing that he has seen in a long time.
“I just wish our drivers could see
the kind of show they are putting on week after week because
it’s incredible,” Binstock recently said. “We have four to
five drivers that are tough as nails and we have some new
drivers that are surprising us as well.”
Rocky Mountain
Raceway is a 3/8-mile track with five degree banking on the
straights and 7-12 degree progressive banking in the corners.
“Our Modifieds, which is our top division, averages about 22-24
cars a week and it’s a tight field. Some will qualify in
the low groove and some in the high groove,” Binstock said.
“They put on some of the best side-by-side, edge of your seat
racing. They are fun to watch.”
It’s been a tough start to the
2009 season as they dealt with rain in May and June, but
Binstock said they are still on track with the attendance
figures they produced last season. “Even in this sluggish
economy, we are doing alright,” Binstock said.
Part of the reason is due to the
excellent racing that the fans have seen, especially from its
top Modified division where Michael Hale of West Valley City, UT
has a 77-point lead over Nick Parker from Kearns, UT in the
standings. Dan McCoy, also from West Valley City is only
79-points behind Hale. Bryan Wordelman from North Salt
Lake City, UT is in fourth.
“Michael Hale is a real good
driver and Bryan Wordelman is one of our new drivers and he is
surprising a lot of us,” Binstock said. “These guys put on
some of the best side-by-side action each week.” Last
Saturday night, the 21-car field was separated by 0.993 seconds
in qualifying with the top-15 separated by 0.341 seconds alone.
Shawn Price was the winner of the 50-lap feature event.
This Saturday night, Rocky
Mountain Raceway will have one of its three remaining big events
of the season with the NAPA 125. On September 7th,
its Dooms Day featuring a Figure 8 Trailer Race and the
Modifieds will have the Torch 100 on Saturday, September 12th.
