ROCKY MOUNTAIN RACEWAYS DRAWS HUGE CROWD
FOR MIDNIGHT DRAGS
Salt Lake City, Utah-May 15, 2009. After a full evening of
Street Legal drag racing Rocky Mountain Raceways held the first
Tint and Accessories Midnight Drags race of the season in front of
packed grandstands.
“This
was a great way to start off this season’s Midnight Drag races –
with an awesome crowd and great energy,” said Doug Binstock, RMR
General Manager. “When we can get this many people for a local
event, it shows that we are doing some good things here at RMR.”
The
crowd was so large, the Rocky Mountain Raceways large parking lot
was overflowing onto and down the 2100 S Frontage Road.
“It
was an insanely large crowd. The lines were long, but it was fun,”
said Mary Fernandez of Sandy, Utah.
In
the earlier event of the evening the RMR hosted its third Street
Legal series of the season. With more than 175 cars, the most cars
in the past two years, the racing was extremely competitive.
Classes in the Street Legal Series include Heavy, Sport Compact,
Trucks, Motorcycle, Diesel, High School and the Teen Championship
Racing.
This
is the first Street Legal race of the season that will include
twelve total Street Legal races. The next Street Legal race will
be held on May 1.
The
night’s winners included Trenton Nell (Diesel), Jim Poyser
(Heavy), Karl Martin (Sport Compact), Tory Laws (Trucks), Jason
Veater (Motorcycle), Aspen Hall (High School), Nikelle Hooten (TCR),
Connor Anderson (Junior Major), Kyle Anderson (Junior Minor) and
Dillan Hart (Junior Rookie).
The
youngest winner of the night was 8 year old Dillan Hart of Layton,
Utah who won in the Rookie Junior Dragster class. Hart’s
grandfather, Harry Dubach, has been racing at Rocky Mountain
Raceways since the late `60s when it was then known as Bonneville
Raceways.
In
its thirteenth year, Rocky Mountain Raceways also hosts oval
racing, motocross racing, monster trucks and drifting.
Rocky
Mountain Raceways’ next events include the AMA sanctioned RMR
Super Oval race (May 16), Summit Super Series ET drag race (May
22), Jet Car Spring Nationals Drag race (May 23) and the Young
Chevrolet 100 (May 25). |
