Alonzo Wins His First Modified
Saturday, April 28, 2007
Some days everything just goes right.
You make the green light at the one intersection you never seem to
make . . . . your IRS refund shows up the Friday before you head
out camping . . . or the Utah Jazz win even though you left your
good luck charm at home.
For Tod Alonzo, luck had nothing to
do with winning the heat race and the
feature
event all the while driving a 1992 Harris (the Modifieds have not seen a
chassis other than a Lefthander win a feature event since the
2000
season). Years of trying and never giving up started back in 1977
at the age of 9 while racing Quarter Midgets in Milpitas,
California. He carried that experience to racing touring sedans at
Laguna Seca in Monterey, California to multi-time feature wins and
multiple track records at Thunderhill Park in Willows, California.
Tod now hangs his helmet after the races are over up north in
Sunset and makes RMR's Super Oval his home track.
Tod picked a good time to not only
take the points lead to start the
season,
he did it at the inaugural ASA Weekly Racing Series event for the
RMR Super Oval. Qualifying found him starting 16th on the grid and
he worked his way through the field eventually taking the lead
from tough competitor Mark Ith, Jr on lap 22. Tod never
relinquished the lead the rest of the Main and found himself in
the Winner's Circle with a big smile, a big trophy, and 10 friends
and family!
